DStv Extra View Installation in Simon's Town
Watch different DStv channels on up to 3 TVs at the same time, on a single subscription, with linked decoders installed and configured in one visit.
One Subscription, Every Room in the House
Extra View is the DStv feature Simon's Town households ask us about most. It links up to three decoders on one subscription, so the rugby can play in the lounge while the kids watch cartoons in the family room and a guest catches the news in the flatlet. Each TV watches its own channel independently, and you pay one subscription plus MultiChoice's Extra View access fee rather than two or three full subscriptions.
The hardware side is where an accredited installer matters. Extra View needs the right LNB on the dish, a dual or quad type depending on your decoder mix, plus a dedicated RG6 cable run from the dish to each viewing point. In the double-storey homes of Murdock Valley and the long, narrow harbour cottages along the historic mile, planning those cable runs neatly is most of the job. We route and clip cable so it stays out of sight and out of the weather.
Once the cabling is in, we link the decoders in the correct primary and secondary configuration, activate the setup with MultiChoice, and test every TV. You get a working multi-room system before we leave, not a follow-up call to a call centre.

Every external joint in an Extra View installation is a potential failure point in salt air, and a multi-room system has more of them than a basic install. We use weatherproof F-connectors and corrosion-resistant fittings throughout, the same specification we use on commercial jobs at Boulders and along the waterfront, so the system keeps performing through winter storms and the summer south-easter alike.
Extra View Questions in Simon's Town
Up to three decoders can be linked on one subscription, each watching its own channel independently. If you want more screens showing the same channel, for example in a guesthouse lounge, we can add HDMI distribution on top.
MultiChoice charges a monthly Extra View access fee for each additional linked decoder, on top of your normal subscription. We will confirm the current fee when we quote so there are no surprises on your first bill.
Yes, mixed setups are common. We configure the Explora as the primary decoder and link HD or second Explora units as secondaries, and we will tell you if your existing hardware or LNB needs an upgrade first.
Usually not. Most existing dishes can be upgraded with a dual or quad LNB rather than replaced. If your dish is corroded or undersized, we will show you why and quote a replacement before doing anything.
