1. About these terms
These terms and conditions govern the services provided by DSTV Installations Simon's Town ("we", "us", "our") to you, our customer, and your use of this website. By requesting a quote, booking a callout or accepting our quotation, you agree to these terms.
These terms are read together with our privacy policy. Where a written quotation or job card contains terms specific to your job, those specific terms apply in addition to these; if there is a direct conflict, the written quotation prevails for that job.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or any other South African law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
2. The services we provide
We are MultiChoice accredited DStv installers operating in Simon's Town and across the False Bay coast, including Glencairn, Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay, Muizenberg, Boulders, Murdock Valley, Da Gama Park, Red Hill, Ocean View, Scarborough and surrounding areas. Our services include satellite dish installation and alignment, Explora and Explora Ultra setup, Extra View multi-room installation, commercial and multi-screen installations, decoder repairs and signal troubleshooting, dish realignment, LNB replacement, cable and connector repair, and annual maintenance plans.
We are an independent installation business. We are not MultiChoice, and we do not control DStv programming, channel line-ups, subscription pricing or broadcast availability.
3. Quotes and pricing
Prices published on this website are starting prices and estimates. They indicate where a straightforward job begins; they are not a fixed price for your property. The published starting points are R800 for a basic single-view installation, R1,200 for an Explora setup, R1,500 for an Extra View multi-room installation, and R550 for a repair callout. Equipment costs are additional unless a quotation states otherwise.
- The final price depends on the complexity of the installation, the mounting position, cable lengths, access, and the equipment required.
- We provide an upfront price before any work begins. If we get on site and the job is materially different from what was described, we will stop, explain, and re-quote before continuing.
- A written quotation is valid for 30 days from its date unless it says otherwise, and is subject to the availability of equipment at the quoted price.
- Additional work identified during a job — for example a perished cable run discovered behind a wall — will be quoted separately and only carried out with your approval.
- Unless expressly stated, quotes exclude your DStv subscription, building work such as chasing or plastering, heritage or body corporate approvals, and any electrical work requiring a registered electrician.
4. Callouts, bookings and cancellations
The callout fee covers the technician's attendance, diagnosis, signal testing and minor on-the-spot work such as realignment or connector replacement. It is payable whether or not you proceed with any further quoted repair, because the diagnostic work has been performed.
- Same-day service is offered subject to availability. Where you call before 12:00 we will usually reach a Simon's Town or False Bay address the same day, but this is an objective we work to, not a guarantee.
- Appointment times are estimates. Traffic, weather and the length of preceding jobs affect arrival times, and we will keep you informed if we are running late.
- Cancellations should be made as early as possible. Where a technician has already been dispatched or has arrived and cannot gain access, a callout fee may be charged.
- Weather. We will not carry out work at height in conditions that are unsafe, including high wind, rain or lightning. Work postponed for safety reasons is rescheduled at no additional callout charge.
5. Site access and your responsibilities
To let us do the job properly and safely, you agree to:
- Ensure that an adult over 18 is present, or that we have agreed access arrangements in advance.
- Confirm that you are the owner of the property, or that you have the owner's permission for the work — including permission to drill, mount brackets and run cabling. Where the property is sectional title, in a body corporate, or subject to heritage or homeowners' association rules, obtaining any required approval is your responsibility.
- Provide safe access to the mounting position, roof space and cable routes, and tell us in advance about anything hazardous, unstable or unusual, including asbestos, fragile roofing, aggressive animals or concealed services.
- Provide access to mains power where the work requires it.
- Move or protect valuables and furniture in the working area before we arrive.
We take reasonable care in and around your property. We are not responsible for pre-existing defects, or for damage that could not reasonably have been avoided when working on structures that are already weak, perished or defective.
6. How we carry out the work
Installations are carried out to the standard expected of a MultiChoice accredited installer. Dishes are aligned using a professional signal meter across multiple transponders rather than by reference to a single channel. We use quality RG6 coaxial cable, weatherproof compression F-connectors, and corrosion-resistant mounting hardware appropriate to the coastal environment, and we seal external joints and cable entries.
Where a mounting position that you prefer will not deliver a reliable signal — because of trees, rooflines, terrain or wind exposure — we will tell you and propose an alternative. If you instruct us to install in a position we have advised against, we will do so at your request, but the workmanship warranty will not cover signal performance attributable to that position.
On completion we will demonstrate the working system and, on request, provide the final signal strength and quality readings.
7. DStv subscriptions and equipment
Your DStv subscription is a contract between you and MultiChoice, not with us. We can assist with activation, decoder linking and account queries as a convenience, but we cannot control subscription pricing, channel availability, account suspensions or the terms of your MultiChoice agreement.
Equipment we supply carries the manufacturer's or supplier's warranty, and we will assist you in pursuing a claim under it. Equipment supplied by you is installed on the basis that it is in working order; we do not warrant equipment we did not supply, and diagnostic time spent on faulty customer-supplied equipment is chargeable.
Where you use our services to provide television to paying guests — for example in a guesthouse, B&B, restaurant or other commercial venue — obtaining the correct commercial subscription and licensing from MultiChoice is your responsibility. We will design and install the system to suit the arrangement you have in place.
8. Payment terms
- Payment for residential work is due on completion unless otherwise agreed in writing.
- For larger commercial installations a deposit against equipment may be required before work begins, as set out in the quotation.
- We accept the payment methods stated on your invoice. Ownership of any equipment supplied passes to you only once payment has been received in full; risk passes on installation.
- Overdue accounts may attract interest at the maximum rate permitted by law, and we may suspend further work and warranty support on an account that remains unpaid.
9. Workmanship warranty
All installations carry a workmanship warranty. It covers the quality of our work — alignment, mounting, cabling, connectors, sealing and configuration — and means that if a fault arises from the way we did the job, we will return and put it right at no charge for labour.
The warranty period applicable to your job is stated on your invoice or quotation. To claim, contact us on the details below with your invoice number and a description of the fault, and we will arrange an assessment visit. Free post-installation support by telephone and WhatsApp is available to all customers regardless of warranty status.
10. What the warranty does not cover
- Damage caused by storm, lightning, wind, flood, fire, power surge or other events outside our control.
- Movement, damage or interference caused by third parties, including other contractors, or by you.
- Normal wear of consumable and exposed components in a coastal environment, where the installation has not been maintained.
- Faults in equipment we did not supply, or in your DStv subscription, decoder software or the broadcast itself.
- Signal degradation caused by new obstructions arising after installation, such as tree growth or a neighbouring building.
- Signal performance in a mounting position we advised against and installed at your instruction.
- Work altered, extended or repaired by anyone other than us.
Coastal installations need periodic maintenance. Where a fault is the result of an installation that has never been serviced, it is treated as a maintenance callout rather than a warranty claim, and we will say so clearly when we assess it.
11. Limitation of liability
We accept liability for direct loss or damage to the extent that it is caused by our negligence or breach of these terms, and nothing here excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Subject to that, and to the extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including loss of profit, loss of business, lost bookings or lost viewing time.
- We are not liable for interruptions to your DStv service caused by MultiChoice, by the broadcast, by weather, or by loss of power or internet connectivity.
- Our total liability arising from any one job is limited to the amount you paid us for that job, save where the law provides otherwise.
12. Your rights under the Consumer Protection Act
Where the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 applies to your transaction, you retain all rights it gives you. These include the right to services performed in a manner and quality that persons are generally entitled to expect, the right to have unsafe or defective work remedied, and any applicable cooling-off rights for transactions concluded as a result of direct marketing. These terms must be read so as to give effect to those rights, and any provision that conflicts with them does not apply to that extent.
13. Complaints and disputes
If something is not right, tell us first. Contact us on 079 754 5527 or info@dstvinstallationsimonstown.co.za with your invoice number and a description of the problem, and we will respond and arrange an assessment where needed. Most complaints are resolved on a return visit.
If we cannot resolve a dispute between us, both parties may refer it to mediation before commencing legal proceedings, and you retain the right to approach the National Consumer Commission or any other body with jurisdiction.
14. Use of this website
